Accountability circles

A Framework for High‑Trust, High‑Performance Cultures

Accountability Circles redefine accountability from blame to responsibility for making things right. Instead of focusing on who caused the problem, this approach shifts attention to solutions, progress, and shared success — creating a culture where people communicate openly, take initiative, and lead with confidence.

What Are Accountability Circles

Many organizations struggle with accountability and often end up playing the Blame Game when challenges arise. The Accountability Circles Program helps individuals and teams understand how they assign blame and praise, then teaches how to reduce resistance and move forward collaboratively.

Shifting focus from who's at fault to how can we fix it.

Accountability Circles defines accountability to mean “expecting people to act responsibly for making things right” rather than “pinning blame on people when things go wrong.” From this perspective, there are two types of accountability.

Why Accountability Circles Work

When accountability becomes solution‑focused, teams experience:

  • More open and accurate communication

  • Greater innovation and risk‑taking

  • Increased ownership and leadership

  • Faster problem‑solving

  • Higher trust and stronger relationships

This shift creates a high‑trust, high‑productivity environment where people feel empowered to contribute.

Without trust, there will be no accountability, just a bunch of finger pointing and covering of one's self interest.

Trust Climate Survey

The Accountability Circles program uses the Trust Climate Survey to assess the level of trust within a team or organization. This survey can be administered before and after initiating Accountability Circles to measure improvement, identify gaps, and ensure overall effectiveness.Using the survey is an efficient, data‑driven way to evaluate how trust influences communication, accountability, and team performance.

The range of results for the Trust Climate Survey is 28–172 points. Lower results indicate lower trust and higher results indicate higher trust, as shown in the diagram below.
